With its great conditions The Track is a “fun” place to play

By Gord Montgomery

There’s a lot to be said about stepping outside of the big, busy city to tee it up at a spot that is relaxed, quiet, and of course welcoming. That’s what you’ll get, and more, at The Track Golf Course located in Langdon, AB.

Co-owner Megan McCourt, who along with her husband, Tom, have taken this country gem and made it even better are seeing players saying The Track is in fantastic shape.

McCourt, in a phone interview with Play Golf Canada, said since they took over ownership a in 2020 they have strived to make their facility the best it can be, right from the time customers drive in until the time they leave.

The one overriding factor here is that the word “fun” is often used to describe the atmosphere here. That means no pretentious staff, no hard-and-fast dress code. Just a relaxed, casual day on the links.

“For us, right from the beginning, we wanted to build something that was a little bit different,’ Megan began. “We put a lot of emphasis on building a good golf community out here. Just build a place where golf is comfortable, dropping the dress code, making it more family friendly. Make it feel like a warm, friendly, welcoming place. There is definitely a focus on fun.”

As for that ‘come as you are’ credo, Megan did say while they aren’t strict about apparel, there are still some rules. “No bathing suits. No tee-shirts with offensive language, that kind of thing. But as for requiring a collared shirt and whatnot, we’ve stepped away from that.”

As to the fun component, Megan said, “It’s a great course, a flat course because we are on the prairie. We’re nestled into our community area,” meaning it is bordered in spots by residential areas, which is not uncommon these days no matter where you tee it up. “We do get some protection from the wind with the housing developments around us …. But the wind does gust!”

As for yardages, The Track offers a wide variety of tee boxes, ranging in distances from three feet under 6,900 yards down to a manageable 5,250 yards for those who like a shorter walk. What is unique here is that the front nine consists of three holes of each par designation – three, four, and five. The back nine though is a standard sort of layout with five par-4 tests along with two par-3 and two par-5 challenges.

In order to warm up, The Track tees up a driving range, a chipping area, and a putting green. After your round, there is a full-service restaurant on site as well as a fully stocked pro shop.

Suggesting those making the journey here from Calgary, Megan noted, “We’re not too far from there. Depending on where you’re coming from in the city, it’s probably a 20 or 30 minute drive. There’s no tall buildings here, no sounds of the city. You’re outside the city and away from the hustle and bustle,” at another rural golf course that is waiting for you to take advantage of their great hospitality on a course that makes sure you do have fun.
